Top Ten Tuesday: Books I’ve Decided I’m No Longer Interested In Reading

tt-tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme brought to you by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was previously hosted at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s topic is: Books I’ve Decided I’m No Longer Interested In Reading

I purged by TBR a few months ago so I have a lot of books that I could have included in this list. I’ll limit myself to 10.

The Winds of Winter1. The Winds of Winter by George R. R. Martin

I know it’s not out yet (and there’s a possibility that it never will) but I have abandoned this series and so I will never read this book. I tried to reread the other books in the series but found them utterly dull the second time around.

I haven’t watched the show either since the first season.

Heir of Fire2. Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

I read the first two books in the series but I’m just not interested anymore. There are too many books in the series and it’s not even finished yet.

I will continue with the A Court of Thorns and Roses series though because it’s only a trilogy.

scarlet3. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Another YA series that I’m just not fussed about. I did like the first book but not as much as I expected to. I might decide to read it one day but for now it has been removed from my TBR.

I could be convinced to read it if someone says that it’s better than the first book though!

ulysses4. Ulysses by James Joyce

I was determined to read this but I’ve decided against it, at least for now, because I’m just not intrigued by it. I don’t think I can deal with the stream of consciousness thing to be honest.

However, I do want to read either Dubliners because it’s a collection of short stories.

War and Peace5. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

I removed this from my TBR for practical reasons. It’s 1,350 pages long and I just don’t have the time or the patience for this right now. I know that I won’t have time in the near future either.

Hopefully I will read it one day but for now I have no interest in reading it.

Jack London6. The Call of the Wild by Jack London

I put this on my TBR during my second year of university because it was mentioned in one of my modules and I don’t know why I decided that I want to read it. I’m no longer interested in it so it has finally been removed from my TBR. I haven’t even thought about reading it since 2013 so I don’t know why it took so long for me to remove it.

Cloud Atlas cover7. Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

I’ve just lost all interest in this book. I really, really wanted to read it for years and now I just don’t. It’s a shame really but that’s life.

I might change my mind again one day, and I really hope I do, but for now I’m not going to read Cloud Atlas.

I'll Give You the Sun8. I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

I added this book to my TBR after a recommendation from a friend so I feel sort of guilty about this.

It was on my TBR for a couple of years but I never actively thought about reading it. I would have kept it on my TBR if I’d bought it but I haven’t so it’s gone from my TBR now.

Vanity Fair9. Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray

I put this on my TBR back in college, when I was about 16, and I’m just not interested in it anymore.

This is another book that I might put back on my TBR at some point in the future but for now it’s staying off my to-read list.

Divergent10. Divergent by Veronica Roth

I actually forgot that this was on my TBR until I was sorting through it. I think that explains why I’ve decided that I’m no longer interested in reading it. I think I’ve grown out of this type of book too. There’s nothing wrong with them but it’s just for me at this present time.

Have you recently purged your TBR? What did you remove?

  1. I’m glad I have read Jack London, but I am also glad I will never have to read his work again 🙂

I like David Mitchell, but honestly, Cloud Atlas was probably my least favorite book. I strongly preferred Number9Dream or The Bone Clocks.

  2. Hi! I’ve also included Divergent on my list! Great minds think alike (?)

If you want to try something else by Joseph Conrad, you can give “Heart of Darkness” a go.
It’s a bit heavy, but I’m sure it’s much more readable than Ulyses 🙂

  3. The Lunar Chronicles gets so much better! The first was okay to me, but the second started to get more interesting and complex, it’s just such a great series! People seem to really like Scarlet, and altough it was not my favorite, I would recommed it, especially because Cress and Winter are AMAZING!
I really liked Divergent back then, but I would go for it myself at this time either… There’s just so many nowadays better than that one…

  4. LOL. Winds of Winter. Do you mean we’ll actually get a book? I might still read it. I feel like I have to since I read all of the others. What if it’s different than the TV show? But honestly, we’ll see. I might not read it either.

  5. I also removed War and Peace from my tbr/have it on this Top Ten Tuesday list! I’m just not that into the idea of reading it, I want to read it more for the bragging rights of saying I’ve read it. I also thought Cinder was ok, and I heard the series gets better but I also don’t want to continue reading a series when my first impression was merely “ok”.

  6. I’m with you on the Throne of Glass series. I read and loved the first two books but now I’m so behind and whenever I try to continue on, they just feel so long and have characters I’m not interested in. I remember loving Divergent, but the series went downhill after the first book. lol. I do want to try a reread of Cloud Atlas – I tried to read it years ago and kept falling asleep, but I think now that I’ve grown in my reading I might enjoy it more.
