Classics Club Spin #26

The Classics Club

It’s time for another Classics Club Spin! I finished my book for spin #25 and I’ve read a few books from my list since then so I’m optimistic about this spin too. The rules are:

  • Go to your blog.
  • Pick twenty books that you’ve got left to read from your Classics Club List.
  • Post that list, numbered from one to twenty, on your blog before Sunday the 18th of April.
  • The Classics Club will announce a number from 1-20 on the 18th of April.
  • Read that book by the 31st of May 2021.

I haven’t put any long books (i.e. Bleak House) on this list because I just don’t have time to read them during this spin. I almost always get long books when I include them so I’m not risking it this time.

10 books by men, 10 books by women, zero long books…

  1. On the Soul by Aristotle (c.350 BC)
  2. Pericles, Prince of Tyre by William Shakespeare (c.1607)
  3. Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes (1651)
  4. The Rover by Aphra Behn (1677)
  5. Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe (1722)
  6. A Simple Story by Elizabeth Inchbald (1791)
  7. Justine, or The Misfortunes of Virtue by Marquis de Sade (1791)
  8. Corinne, ou l’Italie by Madame de Staël (1807)
  9. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (1813)
  10. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (1847)
  11. London Labour and the London Poor by Henry Mayhew (1851)
  12. East Lynne by Ellen Wood (1861)
  13. Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon (1862)
  14. The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen (1894)
  15. Resurrection by Leo Tolstoy (1899)
  16. Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton (1911)
  17. The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle (1912)
  18. The Trial by Franz Kafka (1915)
  19. The Garden Party by Katherine Mansfield (1922)
  20. A Handful of Dust by Evelyn Waugh (1934)

Have you read any of these? Which book would you prefer to get in the spin?

  1. This looks like so much fun! The only books I’ve read from your list are Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre so I definitely think I need to expand my classics reading soon. 😊

    1. The Classics Club is really fun! I’ve found so many interesting books through the other members 😊 I think P&P and Jane Eyre are probably the most popular books I have on my list and yet I’ve never read either.

  2. Amy, off your list I have only read Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice, both of which I enjoyed. So much so for Pride and Prejudice that I have included it on my list for a re-read, although we sadly have it at a different number. Good luck and happy ‘Spinning’! 🤞🙂

  3. I want to read many of these books, and others I love. I’m just curious to see what you’ll think of Ethan Frome. Well, of the others too, but especially this one !

    1. It is! Everyone seems to have read them but it’s nice to know someone else is trying P&P for the first time 🙂 Jane Eyre is one of the only Bronte books I haven’t read (Shirley being the other) so it’d be nice to finally read it!
