6 Books I Wanted to Read in 2021 But Didn’t Get To

At the beginning of 2021, I made a list of 12 books that I wanted to read during the year. I read 6 of them, which is honestly more than I expected to, but that means that 6 of them are still unread for a variety of reasons. Here’s that list:

The Priory of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

I didn’t read this for two reasons. Firstly, I just never bought it. Even when I saw it at the bookshop it didn’t call to me and I ended up buying different books instead. Secondly, I saw some pretty bad reviews of it towards the end of the year and I feel like I need to wait a while so that those reviews don’t impact my own reading of the book.

Will I read it in 2022? Probably not.

Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I’ll admit that I forgot this was even on my initial list until I checked at the end of 2021. That’s the reason that I didn’t read it.

Will I read it in 2022? I don’t think so. I’m trying to focus on books I already own and I don’t own this yet.

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

I forgot about this book too. I’m still interested in it though and I do want to read it at some point. I don’t own it and I am technically on a low buy but if I read enough books from my existing TBR, I might treat myself to this one. Who knows what I’ll decide to do.

Will I read it in 2022? Hopefully, but if not then I’ll read it next year.

Corinne, ou L’italie by Madame De Staël

I did buy this one last year and I almost picked it up a few times but other books won the battle for my heart. Good news though because I actually started reading it yesterday! I am very proud of myself and very thankful that I’m commuting again because it makes reading easier.

Will I read it in 2022? Currently reading!

Faust Eric by Terry Pratchett

I was being ambitious when I added this because it actually required me to read six Discworld novels before this one since I’m reading them in publication order. I read three, which means that Wyrd Sisters is my next book, and I think I’d be lucky to read three this year.

Will I read it in 2022? Unlikely, but I hope I get to it.

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

The only reason that I didn’t read this book is because I decided to wait until the paperback is released. I looked at the hardback and immediately decided that I didn’t want to buy it because the paperback will be easier to read. It’ll be released in March in the UK so I’ll buy it then.

Will I read it in 2022? Definitely.

Fingers crossed I manage to read at least one of these books in 2022!
